It is fine to make a plain salad to accompany your grilled creations, but grilling your side dishes shows a dedication that few can match. Grilled vegetables are delicious, and grilled onions are one of the best.

3 bunches of scallions

1 dl olive oil

Freshly squeezed lime juice from 1 lime

Freshly ground black pepper

Sea salt

Additional lime, cut in wedges

  1. Wash spring onions in cold water and remove any unsightly leaves. Do not remove the "beard".

  2. Cut off a bit of the green ends so they are all of equal length.

  3. Place the spring onions in a bowl, pour the oil and lime juice over and add plenty of ground pepper.

  4. Grill the spring onions on both sides until they are soft.

Serve with sea salt and lime wedges on the side. Finely chopped chilli sprinkled on top is also good.

Tips:

You can also use leeks in this recipe. Large leeks must first be divided into two or four.

Try these scallions on top of a good hamburger.

Scallions can be cooked over direct or indirect heat. They should come out slightly chargrilled, but be careful not to burn them!
